This 3-day course is for persons who are required to climb lattice towers and
telecom structures and who are required to carry out work tasks at height in
exposed locations.  Any person who as part of a team working at height who
would be expected to carry out a rescue should the need arise.

Objective:

To enable the user to access the tower structure safely and allow them to use all work at height safety equipment including work restraint, work positioning and fall arrest systems.  To understand risk assessments and method statements and to enable a simple work task to be undertaken at height. To enable the worker to carry out rescue procedures and understand rescue methods.

Course content:

The Work at Height Regulations 2005 (updated 2007).          
Safe systems of work.
Methods of fall protection.         
Anchor identification and selection.         
Radio frequency hazard awareness         
Work restraint systems.           
Work positioning systems.         
Fall arrest methods.           
Understanding of suspension intolerance.        
Risk assessing, identifying hazards and planning the work task.    
Inspection care and maintenance.         
Carrying out a simple work task at height.       
Carrying out a rescue at height using different rescue devices.  
Creating a rescue plan prior to the commencement of work task. 
Casualty handling at height and at ground level.     
Reporting of accidents and incidents following the event.   

Skill base:

Fitting and adjustment of harness.           
Fitting and use of twin lanyards.            
Understanding practically the use of the energy absorbing lanyards.   
Fitting and use of work positioning equipment.         
Correct use of PPE anchors and anchor systems.           
Methods of ladder climbing.           
Correct use of fall arrest blocks.            
Practical use of fixed vertical fall arrest systems.        
Movement around a tower structure at height.         
Practical use of rescue devices and lowering methods.        
Casualty handling at height and at ground level.      
Off weight rescue technique           
Simple raising and lowering systems to recover casualties from height.   
The ability to create a rescue plan and implement it to the work task.
