Objective:
To enable workers to plan, risk assess and implement a work tasks involving the construction and use of mechanical advantage systems. To gain knowledge of a variety of methods and equipment available for use in lifting and lowering.  To have an understanding of the legal requirements and conform to current legislation. 

Course content:
Understanding current legislation with regard to lifting operations.   
Construction of safe systems of work.           
Care and inspection of PPE.        
Selection of appropriate equipment for lifting and lowering. 
Construction of lifting systems.             
Work positioning / Fall arrest systems.          
Basic pulley awareness and theory.           
Friction factors and deviation loadings awareness.         
Tensioned lines systems.             
Risk assessments for work tasks.            
Method statements for work tasks.           
Practical exercises in removal and refitting of telecommunications equipment.     
Practical exercise in the removal and refitting of feeder cabling.     

Skill base:
Use of twin lanyards and work positioning belts.     
Use of fixed and temporary fall arrest systems.        
Implement a safe worksite area.          
Create an effective risk assessment and method statement.   
Design and construct a variety of lifting systems.     
Removal and refitting of selected equipment.       
Construction of tensioned line systems.      
Construction of mechanical advantage systems.     
Safe use of tools at height.
