Objective:

Theory session to include all working at height activities.  To understand pre-use checks, harness fitting and correct use of all working at height equipment.  To be able to inspect Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and recognise defects and the correct procedure to record these issues.  In detail study of the Working at Height Regulation 2005 and their impact on your profession.  To enable all persons to work on exposed roofs safely.

Course content:

The Working at Height Regulations 2005.       
Safe systems of work.
Methods of fall protection.        
Existing safe working platforms.         
Anchor identification and selection.       
Work restraint systems.
Knowledge of fragile surfaces and different roof surfaces.   
Work positioning systems.         
Fixed and temporary fall arrest systems.       
Risk assessing, identifying hazards and planning the work task. 
Inspection care and maintenance. 

Skill base:

Fitting and adjustment of harness.             
Fitting and use of twin lanyards.             
Understanding practically the use of the energy absorbing lanyards. 
Fitting and use of work positioning equipment.         
Correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) anchors and anchor systems.         
Use of work restraint systems to gain access to exposed edges.
Methods of ladder climbing.             
Methods of securing ladder bases.             
Correct use of fall arrest blocks.             
Practical use of fixed vertical fall arrest systems.         
Practical use and installation of temporary vertical/horizontal fall arrest systems.
